Yes. Girls aren't some prize to be won! They're people! Treat a girl like a person, and she's more likely to respond positively. Treat her like a prize, and you'll die a virgin, got it?

Ok fine, so what's a good thing to say?

Ask her for her name. It's easy to tell if it's fake or not. If it's her real name, that's a good sign. Then just make small talk. Listen to her. Don't take charge of the conversation. The more she talks, the better your chances are. Girls like listeners. Repeat things back to her to show you're paying attention. Just... don't be a jerk.

That sounds easy enough.

How soon is too soon to ask her on a date? Assuming she likes talking with me and everything.

Don't ask for a straight up date. Say something like "Hey, we should hang out some time, get to know each other more." Unless the girl is hinting at a date. You'll know when she mentions anything about dating. But... if she says something about how her last boyfriend, or anything about an ex, be careful. That's her way of saying it might take a while before she'll say yes, so go slow!

So it'd be better to just bring it up while we already talking? I shouldn't just go calling her up, asking randomly.

You could call and ask if you think she won't mind. If you've been talking for a while, that'd be okay. You can even be super casual about it and ask her to hang out with you sometime and hint about it being a date. If she mentions the word date, the deal is sealed!

I guess I'll give that shot.

[ He looks unsure, though. He hopes she won't say no. He doesn't want things to suddenly be awkward between them. ]

What kind of girl is she?

Oh, she's really nice. And really cute, too!

She helped me out when I was upset a few times, and I just really like talking with her.

[ That sympathy and kindness reminds him of someone he lost recently. And that's comforting in an odd way. ]

I know a girl like that. Though she's the sister of two girls who I get along with well, so I hope they don't mind a date or two.

Finding someone to talk to and who listens is a nice feeling.
